This morning the exhibition of the Berlin architect Jan Kleihues was inaugurated.
It's time for contemporary architecture in Piazzola sul Brenta's Villa Contarini. This morning the exhibition of the Berlin architect Jan Kleihues, entitled '' Projects for the city '', was inaugurated. The German professional, who owns an architecture office in the German capital and whose father was an architect himself, was present at today's inauguration. The initiative, organized by two Paduan architects, Cinzia Simioni and Alessandro Tognon, supported by six firms of the building construction field, is sponsored by the Faculty of architecture of Cesena and Bologna, the city of Piazzola, the order of architects of Padua, the Institute of Italian-German culture of Padua and the Cultural association Architettando.
The initiative opened with a conference dedicated to the field's professionals, several architects , including Gino Malacarne, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture ''Aldo Rossi'' of Cesena, representing the university of Bologna, and prof. Carlo Magnani, ordinary professor of Architectonic Composition in the University institute of architecture of Venice, took part in the conference. Prof. Gianni Braghieri, founder of the Faculty of Romagna, was present as well.
The architect Jan Kleihues illustrated the foundations of his activity. The drawings of five projects, which were realized on occasion of international competitions, were displayed, some of these were rewarded with prestigious prizes:
the project for Berlin's Humboldt- Forum, the project for Frankfurt's Museum of History, the project for Madrid's German School, the project for Dresden's Cultural Palace and the project for Regensburg's Culture and Congress Centre.
A documentary on Jan Kleihues' works in Berlin, such as Hotel Concorde, Hotel Maritim, the intervention in Leipziegerplatz and a brief introduction on the Berlin office, was presented as well.
The exhibition is open until December 27 2009 from 10 to 16 (closed on Wednesday).
BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF JAN KLEIHUES
Jan Kleihues was born in Berlin in 1962, where he founded the associate office Kleihues + Kleihues, together with Norbert Hensel and his father Josef Paul Kleihues who was one of the German architects who showed more commitment in trying to reconnect urban history to project, during the second half of the 20th Century. It was in Berlin that, after a long educational experience in the offices of some of the contemporary masters of architecture such as Peter Eisenman in New York, Daniel Libeskind in Berlin, and Rafael Moneo in Madrid, he designed and realized his major works.
He was invited as a visiting professor at the Faculty of Architecture ''Aldo Rossi'' of Cesena for the academic year 2008-09
